KOO JEONG A

The largest solo exhibition of KOO JEONG A in Korea to date, KOO JEONG A: OUSSSMOS brings together works spanning three decades of the artist's career. Encompassing key elements of KOO's oeuvre - including phosphorescence, skateparks, scents and magnets - the exhibition reveals the breadth, versatility and complexity of their artistic vision, inviting visitors into the expansive universe of OUSSSMOS.

Internationally renowned for works ranging from minute interventions to large-scale site-specific installations, KOO has, since the early 1990s, developed a singular artistic language that connects art, science, daily life, superstition and cosmology. Their precise yet poetic works invite viewers to perceive the world differently. Central to the exhibition is OUSSS, a term coined by the artist in the mid-1990s. Functioning as both a prefix and a suffix, OUSSS can refer to energy, matter, substance or even the universe itself.

KOO JEONG A: OUSSSMOS marks the third chapter of an ongoing exhibition cycle, following Land of OUSSS [KANGSE] at LUMA Arles (2025) and Land of OUSSS [GRAVITTA] at Kunsthaus Bregenz (2026). Bringing together the multiple dimensions of OUSSS explored in the previous exhibitions, OUSSSMOS unfolds them on the scale of a cosmos. At its center stands the newly commissioned [MOBIOUSSS], a monumental luminous structure that evokes both the symbol of infinity and a skatepark. Resembling a spacecraft crash-landed within the gallery, it welcomes visitors into a space where distinctions between inside and outside, above and below begin to dissolve.

Extending beyond the M2 gallery, from the lobby to hidden corners between walls and among the antique collections in M1, KOO's works seep through the architecture and reveal themselves in unexpected places. Walking across a disorienting red-and-blue patterned floor, encountering panels composed of thousands of magnets, or roaming around a glow-in-the-dark skatepark, visitors step into the uncanny world that KOO unveils.
