Pilar Corrias is pleased to present Quotidian Figures, a special presentation by Tschabalala Self. The presentation, featuring a selection of new work, accompanies the unveiling of Lady in Blue, London’s Fourth Plinth Commission for 2026.
Lady in Blue pays homage to a young, metropolitan woman – a quotidian figure – reflecting many of today’s Londoners. The work was inspired by a desire to bring a contemporary ‘everywoman’ to Trafalgar Square. The sculpture will be the 16th commission since the Mayor of London’s Fourth Plinth Programme began in 1998.
Tschabalala Self (b.1990 Harlem, New York) lives and works in the Hudson Valley, New York. Self is an artist who builds a singular style from the syncretic use of painting, printmaking and sculpture to explore ideas surrounding figuration. She constructs depictions of predominantly women using a combination of sewn, printed, and painted materials, traversing different artistic and craft traditions. The formal and conceptual aspects of Self’s work seek to expand her critical inquiry into selfhood and human flourishing.
